I applied in the Autumn of 2022. The recruitment process included a cover letter and CV. Next, if they were interested in your application they would phone you for a screening interview. The call was done without any prior arrangement. Then, I was asked to do a writing test. I was sent 3 manuascripts (40 pages each) and was asked to review each paper: - summerise the paper, what it was about, hypothesis, all importnat results, conclusions - strong and weak points of the paper, - would sent it to be peer-reviewed or would I suggest rejection? why yes or no? (novelty, does it fit the scope of NatMicro)? - who I would suggest as reviewers, ideally specific names. I was given 3 h to finish the task. Sandly, I haven't heard back, even after asking for feedback.
