The first round was a positive experience and was partially conversation-driven e.g., discussing your career to date, your skills relating to the job etc., as well as competency-based questions. However, before being invited to the final round, I was tasked with completing an intense numerical reasoning test. For me, this is where I decided to opt out as a potential candidate for the role. I was expecting the sort of questions that you’d typically get in an IQ test e.g., pattern spotting and that kind of thing. However, I was faced with fairly complex mathematical questions (18 in total) with just 25 minutes to answer them! I couldn’t really see what relevance this exercise had for the job and so I decided to withdraw my application. I’d highly recommend that the employer looks at maybe tasking candidates on a presentation revolving around the smooth running of finance systems, perhaps a SQL test etc., anything that’s more relevant to the role itself.
