Over 4 months (!) after sending my application for Backend Software Engineer role, I received an email outlining the interview process and asking for my availability for the first interview. The process consists of: 1) Initial screening interview, 2) Three panel interviews with different interviewers, 1 hour each. 3) Take home challenge. 4) Chat with CEO. The interviews were held over Zoom. They used a tool where you could give your availability and this worked really well considering that this is a global company with employees in many different time zones. I had to reschedule one of the interviews and there was no problem with it. In the screening interview they briefly introduced the company. Other than that, all interviews, including the screening interview, were all about live coding. I was asked to share my screen and work on the problem the interviewer gave. They didn't really ask any other questions. In the end of each interview there was some time to ask questions so that was the only way to learn more about the company. After successful panel interviews, I got en email from the CEO with the take home assignment. When I returned my solution, the CEO responded immediately that they will take a look at it next week and get back to me “right after”. I waited and waited. After 4 weeks, I finally got the rejection email. They apologized for the delay and said it was because of a company offsite. In my opinion this is just unprofessional communication and disrespectful given the time and effort I’ve put to the interview process. I understand that I didn’t get the job but I think I would have deserved better communication instead of leaving me waiting for weeks.

Overall process took ~1 month. Screening interview, three panel interviews (system design, algorithms, another technical), take home assignment, 1 on 1 with CEO, 1 on 1 with engineering VP.
Screening interview and panels were I'd say medium difficulty. Leetcode mediums and watching system design interview recordings on interviewing.io were useful to prep. Take home assignment was difficult.
All of my interviewers were well prepared and attentive. Now that I've been here for a couple months it's clear to me that Metabase is an awesome place to work filled with very genuine and smart people.
