      Entretien pour Project Manager

      31 mai 2017
      Candidat à l'entretien anonyme
      Houston, TX
      Aucune offre
      Expérience négative
      Entretien difficile

      Candidature

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris 2 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien chez MIGSO-PCUBED (Houston, TX) en mai 2017

      Entretien

I applied online. The process took two weeks. I interviewed at Pcubed (Houston, TX). I found the entire onsite experience very unprofessional and unwelcoming. It was not even good practice of other interviews. The first step was a phone screening by HR. During the conversation I was given the salary range which was nice to know ahead of time. The rate was below market for someone with my experience and I only continued with the process because the Houston market is so bad right now. I decided to accept the onsite interview invitation that followed a week later despite the low salary because I am willing to make a financial sacrifice for a good company with people I like. My theory was that even if the job was not a fit it would be good interviewing practice. HR told me that the onsite interview would be 3 thirty minutes sessions: A technical interview, time to review a case study, and a case study presentation. They skipped the technical interview and gave me the case study to start with. The situation setup was one full page and there was half a page of instructions. The first question was “What assumptions are you going to make . . . about the project”. Most PMs know that the cardinal rule of project management is to never under any circumstances make assumptions. This concept has been drilled in my head for over fifteen years by multiple employers and I did not know how to respond. I admit that I do not have much of an imagination and hypothetical situations are far more difficult for me than any real project. I am not sure if it was a trick question, a bad question, or just my difficulties with playing pretend in a business environment. Regardless, the poorly written case study was enough to decide that I do not want to work here.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. We are disappointed to hear about your interview experience, as this is never an outcome we desire. With the speed of business today you have to make some assumptions, and we hope good ones, but we understand we could have caught you off guard. We take your feedback seriously and will use this information to improve our case study process. Thank you again and we wish you all the best in your continued employment search!
