Completed online application and a roughly 75 questions to screen out applicants. Received an email confirmation that my application was completed and that it would be retained for 60 days. During that time I could be called in for an interview.
Because I knew someone who knew someone at Lowe's, a special request was made on my behalf to pull my resume for consideration in the location(s) that I specified. I was called within 3 business days and an interview was setup for later in the week.
When I arrived for the interview, I was 10 minutes early and the interviewer was 20 minutes late. First I was given a clipboard with a job description (for me to review and sign) and a employee schedule of availability. This schedule form, asked me my availability for each day of the week. I completed my availability, signed the forms and waited to be interviewed.
The interview took place in a small back office, without a table or desk, only a work platform with two chairs and a single computer. The interviewer was very nice and treated me with respect. She first reviewed my schedule document. She indicated that there was a red flag on it regarding my availability on Saturday being something different than Open to Close. The interviewer proceeded to explain that the company policy was that all part time staff considerations would only be made in this location based upon my being available Open to Close on Saturday and Sunday each week.
I explained that I coached my children's athletic team on Saturday mornings and that I would still like to honor that commitment, asking if they would be flexible on this. I was told no, and that it would not be wise to try and rely on another co-worker to swap shifts as a personal accommodation. At that point, I inquired about the company commitment to family and a work-life balance that was stated on their website. The interviewer indicated that the policy was their policy. Given this, the interviewer did mention that there was a new program, focusing on Monday-Friday Customer Service jobs, but that this store was not participating in the program.
So, I actually left the store without having any kind of in-depth interview.
