Applied via a referral of a close friend who works at the company currently. Was contacted quickly by a recruiter - had an initial screening interview, then phone interview with hiring manager, and then an on-site interview.
I really wanted to work with HubSpot - they seemed like an amazing company - i read and learned as much as i could via friends, website, podcasts etc - i even downloaded their CMS for developers and coded mock pages as i knew this was required for the role. If you want this job you must review the culture code a few times and understand what HubSpot is about and why they are special. I felt that the interviews all went very well.
Ultimately I received an offer that was monetarily much more than i knew HubSpot would offer me but I felt that the company is on the road to greatness and working there would be fun, challenging, and rewarding. I let HubSpot know as soon as i got the other offer that I needed to respond by X date - so i would need to know if they if they were extending an offer to me or not. I feel like my recruiter kind of dropped the ball with this - she did not respond on Thursday when i reached out, was on vacation Friday, and couldn't get the team to give a response by Tuesday even though my interview was on Wednesday of the prior week. They were unable to let me know if i had an offer, and if i did what the offer would be by my deadline - so i took the other offer.
Perhaps HubSpot wasn't as interested as i thought / was more interested in another candidate and was trying to string me along until they heard back - but i felt given my experience and knowledge i was actually overqualified for the position and would have really been able to succeed and help the team i would have been joining. I know from participating on the other side of interviews the decision is typically made that same day right after the interview. Maybe one day i'll have another chance to join HubSpot - but overall the interview process was smooth, i was well informed, and everyone i spoke to was very professional and you could tell they were a person with HEART.
