The interview process at HubSpot was more than perfect!
Application
I applied through an employee referral and I interviewed at HubSpot Asia in July 2016. The story is long but the outcome is positive.
Interview (First time I applied)
First round was a phone interview with the amazing Sharon Kaur. Unfortunately, the role I applied for has already been filled and Sharon nicely proposed to me a sales opening that was aligned with my background. I was trying to move away from sales at that point in time and after I explained what I was looking for, Sharon asked me to keep an eye on the HubSpot website and reach back to her if any opening I am interested in comes up.
Interview (Second time I applied)
Another Customer Success Manager role opened up after 6 months time and I reached out to Sharon via email. I was positively surprised to see that Sharon remembered me. She responded to my email in a timely manner and put me in touch with Nicholas Chan who was the recruiter on that opening. Unfortunately, the Customer Success Manager role was filled once again but Nicholas moved me to the next round of interviews right away for the Implementation Specialist role. I had my second round with the hiring manager. The interview went really well but the hiring manager did not think the Implementation Specialist role was appropriate for my background. However, he encouraged me to keep an eye out on the next Customer Success Manager opening.
If you are still reading this then you are probably questioning my patience and wondering how this story ends. Even after 2 failures to get a job at HubSpot, the reason why I did not give up is because I appreciated the transparency and the sincerity of the team. The hiring process was a great opportunity for me to meet with the broader team and gain a better understanding of the actual roles/responsibilities and HubSpot culture/office environment.
Interview (Third time I applied)
2 weeks after my second application a Customer Success Manager role opened up and I reached out to Nicholas right away. Nicholas responded the same day and moved me to the next rounds of interviews. He even scheduled 3 rounds at once and I was hired within 2 weeks. Nicholas was so helpful and felt like a true partner with multiple check-ins and positive feedbacks along the way.
