The process started with me approaching a recruiter I connected with a year before and asking about what would be the best position for me now.
The first interview with the recruiter was the usual, to know more about me and what I was expecting from a new role, and what could Datadog offer me, followed by an email with all the information we discussed about teams and how to prepare for everything.
The second interview was a Technical Coding interview, with two easy/medium questions that looked more like real use cases and your typical Leetcode questions.
In the next round, I was given a choice to go with a take-home assignment, show some open source contributions or do another coding interview, I went with the open source contributions and it went well.
The next round was the virtual onsite comprised of 5 different interviews scheduled over three different days. The interviews were:
- Another live coding interview, again, very close to a real life scenario rather than Leetcode. Around Medium difficulty.
- As I was joining an infra team, I also did a Systems interview, where we went through my current project, where I use Kubernetes, Containers, Cloud etc.
- A systems design interview, nothing out of the ordinary.
- The hiring manager interview where we went through some of my experience to make sure there's a strong culture match.
- Lastly, as this was also a Team Lead position, I had a management interview, where we went through some
behavioural questions about my leadership style.
Before and after every round in the process, the recruiter scheduled a meeting to offer some preparation materials as well as to go through the feedback, which is something I greatly appreciated.
While there were a lot of interviews, the process was incredibly smooth, the scheduling coordinator did a great job finding the right times for the interviews and everyone I met was incredibly friendly. All interviews were very fair.
After receiving positive feedback for the onsite round, I was told there were three teams that were interested in me, from which I agreed to meet two of them for team matching.
I had a competing offer and Datadog managed to come up with a a very competitive offer quite fast, which I accepted.
