Proving that change can happen in the moments you least expect it, Nilson went from being a jack-of-all trades in the mechanical and production industry to becoming a learning and development (L&D) trainer at VGW. Born and raised in Brazil, Nilson gained extensive experience in the manufacturing industry before moving to Canada. It was during this time in Canada, while honing his skills in manufacturing, that he discovered his passion for teaching through a transformative volunteering experience. This newfound love for education inspired him to gain industry exposure, with the goal of entering the field professionally. "My journey at VGW began in January 2021," Nilson says. "In March 2023, I transitioned into L&D as a trainer, designing and delivering dynamic training programs." Today, he continues to passionately design and deliver training programs for new hires and team members, focusing on enhancing communication and fostering collaboration to meet VGW’s objectives. Nilson says what he loves most about being a trainer are the growth opportunities and how gratifying the job is. "Having the opportunity to grow, personally and professionally, and being capable of impacting the business positively fuels my day-to-day," he says. He says his best advice as an L&D trainer is to “be humble enough to share your knowledge, learn from your trainees, own your mistakes, and ask for help. Value constructive feedback, and most importantly, reflect and act on it."

Meet Dimitri, Vice President of Growth Products at VGW. With a background in teaching and military translating, it’s fair to say Dimitri’s journey into online social games took a rather unconventional path. Leading him to a fork in the road, Dimitri decided that these were no longer the careers for him, and he wanted to try something completely different. The start of his next chapter began when he landed a job as a localisation manager at a games company in North Carolina, and the rest, as they say, is history. Evolving into digital licensing management for games at National Geographic, along with stints at Fox and Disney before landing at VGW, Dimitri is still very much immersed in the industry 20 years on. Working his way to VP of Growth Products at VGW, Dimitri describes the environment as dynamic, refreshing and impactful. “It's been a good mix of challenging and rewarding, ideal for anyone looking to make a meaningful contribution in the games industry,” he says. Dimitri adds that for new starters in product management, starting early and getting educated is key. “Learn about customer needs, market analysis, and agile methodologies from the get-go,” he says, explaining that networking isn't just a buzzword; it's a lifeline in the world of product management. “It’s about making genuine connections with people who can offer insights, support, and opportunities.” Explore #lifeatvgw → vgw.co/careers/
Meet Rimma, a Senior Data Scientist at VGW. Growing up in a small town on the Europe and Asia border, Rimma was determined to leave her hometown and explore the world. “Studying hard and choosing to pursue a degree in computer science seemed like the way to go,” said Rimma. So, off to study she went. During her studies, Rimma began to doubt herself, thinking she would never succeed as a data scientist. She thought she’d need something to fall back on, so took up Mandarin as her ‘plan B’. This opened an incredible door for Rimma, taking her to Taiwan to study as a postgraduate, and later, to Australia. It was here that her Data Science career took off, which she says wouldn’t have been possible without hard work, luck, and the kindness and trust of people who saw something in her and gave her a chance. Fast-forward to today, and Rimma has been at VGW for over seven years, working her way from Junior to Senior Data Scientist. When asked for one piece of advice she’d give to an aspiring Data Scientist, Rimma said: “Start thinking like a Data Scientist in your everyday life. I try to see the world as a dynamic mess of events with their probability distributions.”

Meet Ebru, a Senior Product Manager at VGW, whose passion for technology was sparked in childhood while watching her father build computers at home. This early exposure ignited her curiosity, giving her the confidence to tinker with computers on her own and teach herself how to code. Ebru launched her high school’s first website in her teens, and went on to pursue a degree in technology. “I’ve been immersed in technology for as long as I can remember,” Ebru says.
