Dr. Dineen Greer's upbringing was shaped by her mother, a Black nurse in the South during a time when healthcare had a pronounced hierarchy. In those days, the profession ranked doctors at the top, followed by nurses, with Black nurses in the South facing additional challenges. Driven by her mother's aspirations for her, Dr. Greer became a family doctor, fulfilling her mother's desire for her to be in a position of authority in healthcare. Currently, Dr. Greer imparts her knowledge and expertise to the next generation of doctors as the program director of the Sutter Family Medicine Residency Program. Beyond her responsibilities in the hospital and medical office, she oversees the training of over two dozen resident physicians across Sacramento, Davis, and a rural residency track in Amador County. The program's focus is on serving a diverse patient population, addressing various healthcare needs that may not be met elsewhere, including care for patients with HIV, AIDS, drug addictions, and transgender medicine. Reflecting on Black History Month, Dr. Greer acknowledges the positive changes since her childhood, not only in the field of medicine but in all aspects of society. However, she remains aware of the persistent challenges and divisions in the nation. Dr. Greer emphasizes the continued existence of functional segregation in many communities and entrenched viewpoints that further divide society.

Originally a lighthearted run aimed at supporting children, the Donut Dash has evolved into a significant fundraiser for the Sutter Medical Center's children's unit. In recognition of this contribution, the hospital expressed gratitude by naming a pediatric unit after the fundraiser. The Donut Dash, which commenced in 2009 and spans four miles with a pit stop at Marie's Donuts in Land Park, collects entry fees that contribute to purchasing items such as video games, art supplies, and iPads. These acquisitions are intended to enhance the hospital experience for children, making their stay more enjoyable.
