After completing volunteer training and additional cuddle care training, Jennifer supports nurses by providing a calm, safe and comforting presence for babies who need it. “I don’t know what led them to be here right now. I don’t know what’s going to happen after I leave. I just know for these few hours I can be calm and safe and loving. And to me, that’s what I have to offer and that’s what they need.” For Jennifer, the experience has been incredibly rewarding and full of joy. Recently, caregivers at INTEGRIS Health Baptist Medical Center explored career next steps at our Nursing Academic Fair. This fair connects our caregivers with academic partners and the nursing career growth pathways they offer. Some attendees came with a clear next step in mind, while others came to figure out their options. Tayla Pitchford, who started her career more than 15 years ago as a CNA, is now a medical assistant pursuing her RN. “This season is hard work, but it’s temporary, and it leads to long-term success,” said Pitchford. Gerri Thompson, a quality assurance reviewer who began her career 12 years ago, attended to explore LPN-to-RN options. “I’m always looking to improve,” said Thompson. This program supports nursing students with financial and career guidance in exchange for a work partnership after graduation and successful completion of the NCLEX.
