Ms. Shilpa Mitra Roy, Director – HR, was invited as a speaker at Amcham India’s Conference on India’s Demographic Dividend: Skilling for the Future - US India Partnership, which was organised in partnership with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship at the Hyatt Regency, New Delhi. She spoke on the topic of “Building Skill Pipeline Through Tripartite Partnership” and her panel focussed on the issue of Public-Private partnerships in the area of skilling.
At the annual battle of the innovative minds of Hughes Systique Corporation, Hackathon 2024, the teams battled it out with AI as their only weapon. While some solutions addressed the key issues that we face as a society, others showcased a promising start with some ingenious ideas. Bringing a refreshing change and twist from the previous years’ Hackathon, this time the participating teams had also to come up with a problem statement and devise solution for it in a fortnight. It was a tough ask from the judges to adjudge any one winner after the teams had presented their solutions to them. But Team Coffee Script with ideators Arjun Vir Singh Mehta, Ishan Bhardwaj & Parth Tayal emerged as the winners of Hackathon 2024 for their prolific idea and creative concept – “Nestmate”. Aayushi Gupta, Raghav Sharma & Yatin Tomer’s team Perceptive Pulse were the runner up for their solution on “Enhancing Human Pose Detection”. Team WFM or Workforce Management of Anirudh Gupta, Arpit Jain & Shubham Gupta were the 2nd runner up of Hackathon 2024 and the winner of the 3rd prize for their solution of “Workforce Management using AI”.
In a candid interview of Vinod Sood, MD, Hughes Systique Corporation, by Prashant Upadhyaya, ex-HSS, they traverse across a plethora of topics and Vinod answers some tough questions while setting the record straight and clearing the air on a lot of things left unanswered. From his unconventional approach to academics at Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh to being part of the C-DoT team which designed India's first Digital Switching system. Vinod also talks about his motivation to join the Hughes team with the “maverick” Howard Hughes playing a big role in it. Donning multiple hats in the early days at HSS, while leading the team to develop the “Cellular Air to Ground Calling System” done for the first time from a commercial airliner to becoming the Global Head of Engineering and R&D at Hughes Software Systems (HSS). He goes into detail about the origins of Hughes Systique which was started by industry stalwarts like Pradman Kaul, Pradeep Kaul, Anil Sharma, Ajay Kr. Gupta and himself. He also talks about the “tumultuous” initial journey of HSC and navigating the challenges of the pandemic. Speaking about the future of the tech industry, Vinod mentions biotechnology, genetics, agritech, quantum computing, immersive reality and AI Powered Brain Computer Interface (BCI) to come up on a big scale in the next 5-10 years.

HSCians at the Rockville, Maryland headquarters in the US, celebrated the festival of Diwali with mesmerizing performance by the extended members of the HSC family and the young ones. The smiling faces at the end of the evening, the occasion even more special.
On his visit to the US, this year, Mr. Vinod Sood, MD, Hughes Systique Corporation, took the opportunity to meet up with HSC’s key customers in USA and Hughes Network Systems in Germantown, Maryland, to re-iterate HSC’s continued commitment of pro-actively providing outstanding support for its customers’ success, through innovation and R&D breakthroughs. He also met the entire HSC teams in Germantown & Miami, Florida and appreciated them for their relentless efforts to ensure a delightful customer experience and their families - the extended HSC family, for supporting them to do so.
Mr. Rajat Sharma, Chief Engineer, Hughes Systique, is not just one of the engineering mavericks at HSC but also a humble mentor to many. He is also the HSCian in Focus for this edition. Mr. Sharma has been one of the earliest members of the HSC family and since then has never looked back. Mr. Vinod Sood, MD, Hughes Systique Corporation (HSC), in an interview with Mid-Day discussed the current trends in Digital Transformation while highlighting the innovative solutions and accelerators that are offered by HSC to help businesses navigate their digital transformation journeys. The festival of Diwali is a time when the families gather and celebrate the triumph of light over darkness with much enjoyment. At HSC, as has been the tradition, we celebrated the festival in the august company of our employees and the extended family members of HSC, without whose support it would not have been possible to carry forward the legacy of excellence for the past 18 years (& counting!). The day witnessed many exciting games, fun-filled events, plenty of dancing and a scrumptious lunch to top it all. The young ones were not one to shy away and showcased their talents in many forms while being delighted with a mesmerizing magic show. Ms. Reena Gugnani, Director - Talent Acquisition, shared her insights on "How hiring practices can be tailored to appeal to Gen Z candidates" with India Today. She emphasizes on the need to "developing an applicant-focused hiring strategy that highlights the employer's brand and provides a satisfying experience".
Mr. Rajat Sharma, Chief Engineer, Hughes Systique, was invited to speak in a panel discussion at CII’s 8th edition of Automotive Industry 4.0 Summit, which was held at Hotel Leela Ambience in Gurugram. Mr. Sharma presented his thoughts on data privacy and ensuring safety while also discussing the use of AI/ML in vehicle development, the adoption challenges of these technologies, navigating the data privacy concerns and ensuring safety in increasingly software-driven vehicles. He emphasised that “Automotive companies must establish transparent data policies, clearly informing customers about what data is being collected, how it will be used, and with whom it will be shared. Data must also be safeguarded from unauthorized access during transmission and storage by using strong encryption and authentication protocols”. He concluded his part by sharing a use case of a project for a defence equipment highlighting how “Critical components in a vehicle can have redundancy and built-in-self test”.
