A modular open systems approach (#MOSA) ensures that mission needs can be met under a wide variety of circumstances – and this is critical for effective intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance. Our #VXE30 #Stalker #UAS has an open interface based on the US Army Standardization Agreement (#STANAG) interoperability profile. By enabling the #aircraft to be controlled by third party software and hardware, the VXE30 is prepared for integration with the US Army’s emerging universal vehicle control (#UVC) and scalable control interface software (#SCI). We’re working together with Kutta Technologies, LLC to utilize the VXE30’s onboard mission compute module and open system architecture to provide a common interface for command and control of the aircraft using open-standard protocols. The Kutta Unified Ground Control Station provides in-flight control, both creating and uploading flight routes and loiter waypoints, as well as commanding the vehicle to achieve mission objectives. “Our VXE30 is multi-lingual, capable of interfacing with external systems via Army IOPS, STANAG 4586, RAS-A, MAVLink, and other common protocols,” said Edge Autonomy CGO Joshua Stinson. “This will enable the aircraft to be controlled by multiple operators under a wide variety of circumstances using their preferred device whether they are on foot, in an armored vehicle, or inside a cockpit.” #OpenArchitecture #ISR #UGCS #EdgeInnovations #IOPS #RAS-A #MAVLink
Edge Autonomy’s #optical #gimbal systems integrate seamlessly with third-party solutions, including #ATAK, a suite of software that provides geospatial information and allows for ease of user collaboration. Why is this key for mission success? A true modular open systems approach matters because complex mission environments require adaptable solutions, and innovation demands interoperability. ATAK is an open-source application widely used by the US military, NATO, and law enforcement. When a #UAS operator isn’t trapped in a vendor lock, they have the freedom to choose the assets best suited to the mission. By allowing any operator on your network to take control of our gimbal payload, the UAS becomes another member of the team. The ATAK operator does not need to be a UAS pilot, but can simply provide commands to the gimbal, resulting in near-real-time intel the warfighter can rely on. Lithuania’s Minister of National Defense, Laurynas Kasčiūnas, recently unveiled the integration of drones into the country’s military structures. “We have made the decision to buy drones for our entire army, integrating the National Defence Volunteer Forces, the Military Academy General Povilas Plechavičius Cadet Lyceum, in order to build a drone ecosystem,” said Kasčiūnas.
