On Black Friday, we closed our website and stores for a moment of pause amidst the chaos of a day focused on hyperconsumerism. Instead, Anika D., DECIEM’s Director of Sustainability, Dina Nicola, VP of Scientific, and David Luba, Co-Founder of Veritree, hosted an open conversation on how data, transparency, and collaboration are transforming sustainable beauty at our Toronto HQ. They spoke about our science-led approach, from lab innovation to packaging design, and our new partnership with veritree, supporting their verified, nature-based restoration work across forests, kelp, and coastal ecosystems, using transparency and verification to cut through greenwashing. We also discussed what’s next in DECIEM’s sustainability journey as it deepens its investment in regenerative action globally. A huge thank you to Veritree and our guests for joining us to learn more about the future of sustainability and practical innovation - because transparency isn't a trend, it's the future of sustainability.

To honour Black History Month, we partnered with Black Skin Directory to host an in-person panel, “Beyond the Surface”, exploring representation in science and skincare. Moderated by Khadijat (Dija) Ayodele, and featuring voices from across the beauty landscape — Gary Thompson, MUA and content creator, Caroline Ufuoma O., and Joseph Basham from our team — the conversation brought transparency and education to the forefront. Together, the panel unpacked enduring myths about Black skin, discussed the safe and effective use of direct acids and SPF, and explored how representation in science, education, and marketing builds trust and belonging in beauty. We’re grateful to everyone who helped create this space for open dialogue, learning, and representation. Conversations like these remind us that progress in beauty happens when we come together.
Last month, we hosted a Wellness Fair for our employees at our Toronto office because we believe in nurturing the health and well-being of our people. The day was entirely dedicated to prioritizing the physical and mental health of our teams. Employees enjoyed movement sessions like Yoga and Pilates classes, a catered lunch, and mindset & self-care workshops focused on cultivating a healthy mindset and creating sustainable self-care activities. We remain committed to creating an environment where everyone feels cared for.
Single use plastic waste is a problem. We want to do our part to help reduce its impact. We’re partnering with 4ocean PBC to help remove over 1,000,000 kilograms of ocean and ocean-bound plastic over the next 3 years. Since 2017, they’ve removed over 18,000,000 kilograms of plastic and waste from our coastlines, rivers and oceans. We’re proud to support this team in their work to create cleaner oceans and a healthier planet for all. Small steps towards change can lead to positive outcomes in the future. Today is the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation in Canada. Much of our business and our people are situated on the unceded territory of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis People. We are committed to creating a world of Belonging and to do so, we must recognise the history of colonialism in Canada, and the continuing impacts on First Peoples. This year, we’ve made a meaningful step in our journey - our first Reconciliation Action Plan. Developed in consultation with Indigenous Peoples and Communities and in partnership with Creative Fire Canada, our plan outlines our commitment to deepen our relationships with First Peoples through: 🧡 Intentional year-round learning and cultural awareness education, in partnership with Indigenous providers. 🧡 Building deeper relationships with Indigenous-led organisations and businesses. 🧡 Increasing representation of Indigenous practises and people in our business. Reconciliation is a journey, and it requires more than words and commitments. It requires action. We look forward to sharing our full Reconciliation Action Plan with you soon, and will keep you up to date on our progress.
