In celebration of our Citco community, wellbeing and the wonder of nature, this week we would like to share an experience from our Head of Sustainable Health, Dr Megan Whelan. Megan recently returned from high up in the mountains after taking part in the Pyrenees Stage Run. The event set off from Ribes de Freser following the GR11 route to Salardú, covering 240km, 15,000m ascent, 2 countries and 5 natural parks in 7 days – and with 70 runners from 15 different countries! For Megan, nothing quite compares to the infinite freedom of moving through the mountains for inspiration and reflection, together with the comradery of good friends made along the way. This truly unique opportunity, seeing such breathtaking landscapes and ecosystems first hand, served as a reminder of the part we all have to play in protecting and preserving our planet. Released today, our H1 2022 Fund of Hedge Fund Update highlights the performance of aggregated funds of hedge funds administered by the Citco group of companies. In a period marked by extreme volatility, it was the largest portfolios that delivered positive returns, with funds with assets of $1B+ returning a gain of 0.17% over H1. Elsewhere, we saw that funds holding between 5 and 20 underlying portfolio positions outperformed the more diversified funds. Following the swing back into positive territory for hedge funds in July, our latest report highlights hedge fund performance in August. All strategies saw positive returns – bar Equities and Multi-Strategy. Event Driven funds performed best at 3.5%, followed by Commodities at 1.8%, Global Macro at 1.6% and Fixed Income Arbitrage at 0.1%. Elsewhere, we saw a continued uplift in volumes and overall activity in the treasury space, with an increase in volumes of over 37% this month compared to the same month the previous year. Our team had the privilege to meet the President of Lithuania, visit Save the Children Lithuania – a charity that has played a supporting role in the Ukraine crisis – and spent the evening at the Lithuanian National Philharmonic, with the US ambassador to Lithuania in attendance.
