Meet Emma, an Inpatient Rehabilitation Physical Therapist II with Atrium Health Carolinas Rehabilitation in Charlotte, NC. Emma's passion for health care began at an early age after personal experience with rehab professionals. “I was initially attracted to Atrium Health because it was the closest brain and spinal cord injury rehabilitation hospital to where I grew up and one of the best in the country!” Emma recalls. Emma recently completed Atrium Health's Neurological Residency program. She is dedicated to assisting individuals with brain and spinal cord injuries and helping younger therapists discover their passion. She not only finds satisfaction in helping someone walk again, but she also values restoring a person's quality of life in significant ways. “It’s incredibly rewarding to help someone roll in bed by themselves, brush their teeth, hold their kid again or go grocery shopping,” she shares. Atrium Health has supported Emma from her teenage years as an intern to her current role. “Our team pushes you to be the best version of yourself professionally and personally," she noted. "Atrium Health allows us to attend and present at continuing education conferences, helping us grow and network nationwide.” Her favorite aspect of working at Atrium Health is her co-workers. “They are there when you need support, have questions, need a hug or need to vent about a tough case. The amazing team at Carolina's Rehabilitation makes coming to work every day worth it.”

Meet Jordan, an aspiring health care professional and Atrium Health extern who was just nominated for the Good Catch Award for detecting and preventing a potentially harmful event before it impacts a patient, teammate or visitor. Jordan was awarded the Atrium Health Good Catch Award for her exceptional attentiveness and swift action. While on duty, she overheard a patient, who had just experienced a significant loss, express a desire to hurt themself. Recognizing the urgency, Jordan immediately alerted the doctor, who was able to intervene quickly. Her rapid response and keen observation ultimately saved the patient's life, demonstrating her dedication and commitment to patient safety and care. Jordan emphasized the impact of the Good Catch Award program on creating an encouraging and uplifting work environment for teammates. "Advocating for patients is inherent to our role, but the Good Catch Award program provides teammates with a specific goal to strive for," she said. "It's our responsibility to identify potential issues proactively, even when no one is observing." During her externship with Atrium Health, Jordan witnessed the extensive mental health support for both staff and patients. "I've had the opportunity to observe a debrief following a trauma alert, where everyone could openly share their emotions and thoughts," she shared. Meet Cadence, a 19-year-old nurse assistant at Atrium Health Union West. Her journey with Atrium Health began in 10th grade when she joined the Academy of Health Sciences, participating in the Atrium Health MYEP Wintership Program and later the Rise to Success Program. Cadence secured an entry-level position at Atrium Health Union West following graduation. "Having the ability to explore opportunities and gain experience and working side by side with teammates in a hospital, inspired me to pursue my career in nursing," she reflects. Cadence is now balancing her role as a nurse assistant with her studies toward an Associate's Degree in Nursing, further expanding her education and career opportunities. "My goal as a nurse assistant and future nurse is to exemplify compassionate care throughout the field of health care," she shares. "I believe as a nurse it is important to not only treat our patients' physical afflictions, but to aid in healing their mind and soul as well, and to have empathy and understanding so that we can be a safe place for our patients." Outside of her hospital duties, Cadence is an assistant aerial dance teacher. She also loves to travel and spend time outdoors. "I take personal care seriously because I believe that it is important for me to take care of my body and mind first so that I can take care of others," she emphasizes. Meet Page, a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital. Page splits her time between hospital care and clinic follow-ups with the pediatric heart transplant, heart failure and VAD team. "I love the continuity of care we provide," she shares. "We support families during tough times and celebrate their greatest accomplishments." Inspired by caring for her sisters and cousins while growing up, Page always knew she wanted to work in pediatrics. At Atrium Health Levine Children’s, she thrives in a multidisciplinary team. "Caring for our patients and their families is a privilege," she says. Page is excited about advancements in pediatric cardiology. "Procedures that once required open-heart surgery are now performed with a catheter, allowing patients to go home the next day. Ventricular devices are improving, and we can now send some patients home with these devices," she explains. What sets Atrium Health Levine Children’s apart is the collaboration within the cardiology department. "We are opening a comprehensive cardiac floor soon, allowing many patients to stay on the same floor from admission to discharge," she says. Outside of work, Page enjoys Charlotte, North Carolina's warm atmosphere and outdoor-friendly environment. She loves hiking, biking and going to the beach. Her advice to young professionals is to "ask questions, seek learning opportunities and be approachable. Pediatric cardiac care is challenging but extremely rewarding."
