Business is taken lightly at Gooch & Housego (G&H), which makes precision optical components. The company's products are designed primarily for use in light measurement instrumentation and crystal manufacturing. It was founded in 1948 to make precision glass and crystalline materials; it still makes precision optics, such as coatings, lenses, and prisms. G&H also offers acousto-optic devices, such as frequency shifters, tunable filters, and fiber-coupled modulator. In 2007 G&H acquired SIFAM Fibre Optics for £5 million. The next year it bought the assets and business of General Optics from GSI Group for $21 million. The company does much of its business in North America.
