I did a phone interview a couple of months ago for an administrative role. The woman on the other line asked me questions about science and math to test my intelligence. She asked few questions about my administrative experience or my career goals. She was aggressive and rude and short with me. I don’t mind that I didn’t fit what they were looking for, I just still remember how unnaturally rude the interviewer was to me.

The interview process at comma.ai for the Office Manager role was brief and, honestly, not very reflective of what the role actually demands. For a position centered around facilities management, vendor coordination, and operational execution, the bulk of the interview leaned heavily on riddle-style logic questions — including the classic lily pad exponential growth puzzle — rather than situational or behavioral questions that would surface real operational competency.
To be fair, comma.ai is a tech company and the emphasis on quick thinking and outside-the-box reasoning makes sense culturally. A couple of the questions did dig into facilities problem-solving and how you'd approach getting projects done under pressure, which felt more relevant and gave the conversation some substance.
That said, the process felt short for the scope of the role, and the riddle format — while intellectually interesting — isn't necessarily the most accurate signal of whether someone can run a complex operation. Strong office managers and facilities leads are systems thinkers, not trivia performers.
A Notable Observation
The role was reposted within a week of candidates being notified they weren't moving forward. Make of that what you will — but it raises questions about whether the hiring process was fully formed or whether the bar was clearly defined going in.
Bottom Line
If you're interviewing here, brush up on your logic puzzles and be ready to think fast on your feet. Come prepared with concrete examples of operational wins. And go in with eyes open about the process itself.

I applied online, got an automated message, then received an email from them within an hour. The interviewer was super rude. I wouldn’t even want to work there after the initial phone interview. The company seems like an excellent place to work. However, the interviewer lacks the essential skills. People skills!
