I was first asked to do an inductive and then a deductive test, which doesn't prove anything, you just need to practice for the test. It was the first time ever in 20 year of career that this kind of that has been asked to me. After that, I received a tech assignment to create a "game" using the Java framework that I'm familiar. I used principles o MVP (Minimal Viable Product), Kiss, Lean Software, YAGNI. So I was able to deliver a fully functional game. The feedback back of the interview was the WORST of my life. I was told that my code was "very basic to my level of seniority" (which today I think it is a compliment) , and that they had a high expectation of my code. I was also told that they expected me to use Spring Boot, while the assignment said that I could choose any framework. Because I didn't overengineer my solution, the email that I received from bol.com made me bad for two days. Furthermore, If bol.com wants to hire an enterprise developer, they should NOT ask to create a game. The engineer used to produce an enterprise application is not the one used to produce a game, which led me to focus more on the game logic instead of business layers. Finally, I don't think bol is looking to hire good software engineers. They are looking for a Spring boot developer that uses all design patterns, layers and technologies to prove that you are good enough.
