I applied online trough a job portal's form and I received a call from a HR member. He told me about the company and their technology objectives in the short term and asked me to complete a code test of codility.
The code test was completely abstract and it was about triplets on pits on an array that was on Internet on thousand of articles and I am pretty sure that the candidates that are passing the trial are copying such that test from internet.
I understand the need of code tests for the companies to test the candidates, but it's absolutely ridiculous asking for something that has no utility in the real world without real application.
Are you looking for mathematicians without ability to design robust and maintainable architectures or experienced developers with software design capabilities?
Why do you search for experts in algorithms if your business case is to be a online retailer of animal goods?
I have been wondering about your issue in the choice of the test and I think the reason is you guys think you are facebook and of course you are not. I have done tests for Red Hat at Czech Republic and they were much clear and down-to-earth than yours.
