I got to know about a job of junior data analyst in machine learning. I was interested and applied for the job via monster. The job required a preliminary teaser task problem to be solved, sent along with resume, cover letter. I sent them an average intuitive solution for the task( Since the task was marked optional ). After 4 weeks, I got a call for a telephonic Interview. The interview lasted for 45 minutes. The Interviewer asked background questions, project experiences and 2 very simple algorithm questions. I correctly answered the questions with alternative replies. I was further told to fix the teaser task and resend them the solution(which I did send them ). They were supposed to get back to me within a week which they failed to do so. 1 week later, I had to email HR to ask them about the feedback. They sent me same blah-blah answer along with good luck reply saying there were too many great candidates with great degrees & experience who outbid me ;) To sum up : I ended up wasting my 12-16 hours on a statistical test . The final feedback is very disoriented and indifferent; mentioning nothing about my solution, interview process. My take: The process of hiring is non systematic. The HR complains of lack of time spent in telephonic discussion as reason of their inability to screen me out , there by resume, qualification and experiences being used as deciding factor. I personally felt the interviewer didn't have domain knowledge; lacked technical depth of algorithms.

I received the invitation for the first interview 3 weeks after I sent my CV. The first interview was with the HR and took 15 minutes. The second interview was with the team. There were questions on the specialty and tasks. It's took 1 hour.
