I initially applied for a different position for which I was really excited about. The recruiter — nice and professional — reached out and told me that my profile would likely fit the EM position better. Eventually told me that they'd be happy to have me have a go at both positions, which I accepted.
Unfortunately, I was fast-tracked to the position I hadn't applied initially, even though I had clearly stated my preference.
I was asked to submit a presentation on how to build an engineering organization, how to collaborate with product and design, principles and practices of software development, etc. This scope is massive and to do it justice you need book-length content, not a PowerPoint presentation. I wondered if I was applying to Google.
Devoted a number of hours to it, and presented it the next day to a panel of EMs and Senior EM.
When I asked my manager-to-be what I could expect from him, the answer was disheartening, though: "After things calm down a bit, you can expect 1:1 meetings".
Later got feedback that I hadn't passed that interview, and to this day (weeks later) I'm still waiting for any news on the role I had actually applied for.
