A demanding, multi-step, month+ long process that was at least, to yipit’s credit, communicated fairly clearly up front. The steps were as follows:
1. Initial Excel screening test - trick is to flag some missing data and notice that a portion of given spend is attributed to the wrong segment
2. Call with team member to talk about yourself and the company, fairly laid back
3. 1-week assignment, very time intensive - write a 2-3 page report on MercadoLibre, using Yipit’s data on the company to call the upcoming quarterly report and explore some trends in the numbers. Expect to invest 10+ hours reading through transcripts, earnings reports, manipulating the data, writing etc.
4. Call with another team member to discuss the assignment/more behavioral and background questions - basically an in-depth, on-the-spot grilling on everything you already spent time explaining in detail in the written report
5. Final calls with additional team members and CEO
I personally was dinged after step 4 for (according to company feedback) something that was readily apparent from my resume and and should have been addressed/cleared up early in the process before I spent a bunch of time on an excel exercise and phone calls.
Yipit seems like a good place to work but they take themselves a bit too seriously and demand a lot from interviewees - they're intent on finding the perfect fit for each role and don't seem to care if they waste a bunch of peoples' time along the way. There are plenty of other companies doing interesting things in the alternative data space that don't subject candidates to such a rigorous and time-consuming interview process - I would highly recommend applying to competitors first and keeping Yipit as a last resort.

The interviewing process was well conducted, it took ~2 months between the first recruiter contact and when I received the final answer. In general they were pleasant interviews, I had one experience that was a little bit more intimidating but the person is no longer at the company. The cases they deliver are not extremely hard, but require attention and effort, considering they always gave me at least 1 week to deliver I could use my weekend for doing it.

I interviewed an HR representative from China and because of the language barrier, she couldn't answer simple questions related to career trajectory, and division of labor within the team. She also refused to explain the possible career path within the company. All in all, it was a waste of time.
