I initially approached a very pleasant recruiter at a campus career fair. I have always been interested in LEDs and Solar Engineering so the display looked very appealing to me. I instantly got the impression that successful employees are passionate about LEDs, so I accepted the offer of a phone interview which came a few days after the career fair. The phone interviewer was a manager from R&D Components and he was very pleasant on the phone as well. The questions were technical and somewhat difficult, but manageable for someone with a degree in Materials Engineering or Physics such as "How does an ion pump work?" and "What is a Quartz Crystal Microbalance?" I was also asked some detailed questions about my research work in Thin Films. The manager also seemed very passionate about productivity, efficiency, and an intense working environment. This is expected at a manufacturing job anyway, so I accepted an on-site interview. Once again, the questions were intricate and technical. The interview was very long, but the interviewers were interesting and fun to talk to. If you have extensive technical knowledge, I highly recommend interviewing. Even if the work schedule is not for you, it will prepare you for any interview. I had a lot of opportunities available to me and chose this one for the excellent benefits package and intense working environment. It's clearly not for everybody but they seem to have chosen me because they could read that I was a good fit for them.

Long but fair. Started with an HR interview where I was asked standard questions as well as a time where I had to solve a technical problem and the steps I took to do so, then a 2nd phone interview with a manager who was friendly and polite. I was asked a combination of questions from what I am looking for in a job culturally,, behavioral questions, and some very straightforward technical questions pertaining to LEDs and semiconductors. I am preparing for my 3rd interview now and was told to expect 4 total before an offer. All the interviews are still over the phone, none in person. For the 3rd interview I have been asked to prepare a 30 minute presentation on research or a project I have completed and to expect 30 minutes of follow up questions from 3-4 R&D managers.
