I applied for a finance position and was setup for an interview with the CFO. We had an engaging 30 minute conversation and both of us felt excited about the match of the company’s need and my skills/experience. I was told that HR would bring me in to meet face-to-face with other team members.
After a week of no contact I called HR and left a message. After no response, I called the CFO and left a message. After no response, I e-mailed the CFO. Still no response.
I was “Ghosted”.
At the outset of our interview I was upfront that I was seasoned (“over 50 years old”) and had a recent employment gap (4 years). The CFO assured me that was not an issue as he was seeking to recruit someone with deep experience at large organizations.
I believe that a background check was performed and my actual age (58) was revealed. When I volunteered that I was “over 50”, perhaps it was assumed that I was closer to 50 than 60. I believe that this was the deal breaker.
Westfall Technik should be ashamed of their behavior. Whether it is due to blatant age discrimination or simply incompetence, it does not demonstrate the culture of an organization that will be able to recruit and retain human assets.
