They came to my college career fair. Set up an interview the very next day. 1st round: Hiring manager and sales manager. Just asked me about myself. My biggest strengths and weaknesses. What are some of your achievements? What type of environment do you like to work in? I reviewed their website to make sure I had all the facts, which is a good thing because they asked me "So, what does WeddingWire do?" Called me about a week after to set up a in-house interview. Got a follow up email. 2nd round: So. Long. I was in their office for about three hours. I was exhausted afterward. We got a tour and an introduction to the company (brief overview of benefits, work culture, etc.). We were in a group of 5, some interviewing for the sales positions, others for account manager. Tad bit intimidating to see the competition, but they assured us that there were various positions open so it's not as bad as it seems. Then we had to shadow with a sales associate (the position I was seeking). It was very casual and comfortable with the sales associate. Ran you through her daily work and how she works with the system. You (hopefully) see her close a sale. Then 3 20-minute interviews. One with a higher-up manager and the CFO. The older gentleman who I believe was the CFO or someone way more important seemed intimidating. He didn't smile and I felt that he was just constantly squinting at me, judging me. He seemed almost skeptical...? While the other manager was pleasant and more engaging. The next interview was with two sales managers. That's when they asked these hard questions. They have never seen my resume so I had to walk them through it. They were, of course, more centered around sales and your experience (even if you didn't have a direct sales job). The last interview was with another manager. It was almost a repeat of my first interview. Overall they office seems friendly and dynamic. Some of the managers seem to have a stick up their ass. In the interviews with two employees, there was always a good-cop bad-cop, one that was always smiling and agreeing with you and the other who barely spoke up and when they did it was an aggressive follow up question. I'm not sure if I was what they were looking for. I was very confident in my interview, but I was the only undergrad senior in the bunch without *real* sales experience...however they urged that the lack of experience doesn't ruin your application. Job seemed a little dull and repetitive. All the benefits they mentioned like a $250/year allowance for self-enrichment (gym membership, classes, workshops) seems like a nick perk, and free warm breakfast everyday. However that's just a ploy to butter young people up...I'd rather get the $5,000 tacked on to my salary than get free meals. However they work space is pretty cool. Cheap cafeteria, ping pong table, happy hours, and open space. The actual work space that you work in is a bit crowded and loud...you really do feel like a telemarketer, but that didn't make or break my feelings about WeddingWire. To conclude, I enjoyed my interview. It was a lot of practice. Not quite sure what candidate they are looking for.

      Questions d'entretien [1]

      Question 1

If you could be any car, what type of car would you be? Do you love to win or hate to loose? If you could only choose one: competition, money, recognition? When you shadowed your sales associate, what could he/she have done better?

I applied and they responded about a month later. Scheduled an over the phone interview and then got asked to go in for an in-person interview. When I arrived, they had me tour the building then I sat down with someone on the Sales team, then had about an hour long interview with two hiring managers. The interviewers asked a lot of questions about myself and why I want to do sales. It was very stressful. Then I shadowed a sales associate and got to listen to some phone calls. I left feeling pretty good about the whole interview but then got an e-mail three days later saying they've moved onto other applicants.

I applied to the sales associate job in September and got an email inviting me to do an initial phone interview in October. The phone call was with HR and lasted about 20 minutes. The questions were pretty simple. After that, I was Invited to interview in person at the headquarters in Chevy Chase, MD. This interview was very difficult with two Sales Managers. It seemed like for every answer I gave they weren’t satisfied and wanted to keep pressing me until I said what they wanted to hear. They were not happy that my background wasn’t in sales even though the job posting called for graduates from any major. This interview lasted over an hour with a lot of behavioral based questions. If they don’t like your answer to a question, they will just re-word the question and ask again. The offices are newly renovated and have a lot of cool perks like free hot breakfast, casual work attire, free haircuts and massages and more that attract new grads to apply. But honestly, unless you love being on the phone for 99% of your day making sales calls than this job is not for you. I was joy given an offer but after my second interview, I was not going to accept an offer anyway.

I applied online and heard back the next day to schedule a phone interview with a recruiter. That went smoothly and was very informative - the recruiter was super sweet and very enthusiastic. I was then asked to participate in a second interview via video since I was located outside of the DC area, and felt very confident going in to it based on how well the first interview went. Unfortunately, this turned out to be what felt like more of an interrogation than interview/conversation. A previous reviewer mentioned that they got the “good cop, bad cop” vibe and I felt exactly the same. One of the interviewers was aggressive, arrogant, and down right rude at some points. They started out asking typical interview questions, but further into the interview my responses were just twisted around negatively and questioned/second guessed by him. He spent so much time running the interview like this that we didn’t have an opportunity to even play out a sales pitch. I’m not sure if this is some sort of tactic WeddingWire is using to see how you respond when pushed and under pressure, but I think they’d find out more about candidates by having it be a more positive interaction. I left feeling extremely discouraged and wasn’t even sure I wanted the position anymore. I was honestly relieved when it wasn’t offered to me.

      Questions d'entretien [1]

      Question 1

Introduce yourself. Why are you interested in the position and WeddingWire? Where do you see yourself in the future, specifically what role? Why did you leave your previous position? How did the metrics and ranking system work at your previous sales position? What were you most successful selling previously? Besides characteristics of the company and culture, what are you looking for? When’s the last time you were in competition? When’s the last time you were pushed outside your comfort zone?

We genuinely appreciate you sharing your perspective. Our candidate experience is a very high priority for us and based on your feedback, we’re off the mark. The interview process at many companies is often a difficult one; however, it is an opportunity for the employee to get to know the company just as much as it is for the team to understand the candidate’s professional experience. That said, we take all feedback seriously and we are exploring this in cooperation with our sales management team. It’s essential we are able to understand if a candidate is qualified but in a way that is a positive experience overall. Thank you, again, for sharing your thoughts with us. We wish you success in your search and next role.
