I interviewed for an internship at Wayside Recovery Center's family treatment site and their women's residential site. The interviewers asked reasonable and good questions about my experience and counseling philosophy, and they were easy to talk to. However, the rest of the process did not go smoothly because they did not communicate clearly and honestly with me. The interviewers from the women's residential site reached out to me on the same day and offered me an internship, but they said they would give me time to think about it because they knew I was interviewing with the family treatment site, too. I was transparent about when I was interviewing with the family site and when the family site told me to expect an answer. I finally reached out to the family site because it had been a while since I heard from them, and only then did they me I had not been selected. Then I went to accept the offer from the women's residential site, but they told me out of the blue that they had been interviewing candidates while waiting to hear back from me and had chosen another candidate. Meanwhile, they had not communicated to me that they would be continuing to interview other candidates. On the contrary, they had communicated that they would allow me time to get back to them with a decision. They did not give me a deadline of when to respond. They did not communicate clearly with me and keep me in the loop, which made me feel disrespected and not worthy of their time. I was (and still am) incredibly disappointed, disheartened, and hurting because I admire the work they do at Wayside in treating women and mothers in a holistic manner, and I had been very much looking forward to the opportunity for an internship there.
