      Entretien pour Software Engineer

      28 févr. 2016
      Candidat à l'entretien anonyme
      Atlanta, GA
      Aucune offre
      Expérience neutre
      Entretien moyen

      Candidature

J'ai postulé via un établissement d'enseignement supérieur ou universitaire. Le processus a pris 2 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien chez WRKSHP (Atlanta, GA) en févr. 2016

      Entretien

Process took about 2 weeks. Did a chatroom type career meeting, was later contacted and offered an interview. First was called by a technical employee and simply talked to him. This was followed by a second technical interview. Interview was rather standard, although I was applying for a role that I was quite evidently not qualified for. Hence I was not offered a position. I went through the phone screens well, but was deemed inexperienced for the job.

First, I took a take home test. Afterwards, I took a screening phone call before I was invited. I honestly think this job isn't worth the time you invest in it. There are more reviews under their old name PennyPop, so you guys can look up some more information about the place. I encourage you too. In Person Interview: When you walk in, there is no receptionist, and a wall full of shoes, so You sit there awkwardly walking along their development team that honestly looks like a sweat shop. A lot of people cramped into a small room that smells like feet and sweat. Oh, and I sat on a folding party chair during my interview. WRKSHP is in a nice building, so you will feel tricked into believing your in a nice place until you walk in. They'll give you an excuse about being a "profiting start up" so they can't afford any of the luxuries like giving their engineers good chairs or some elbow room. The bare minimum in comforts. Then I interviewed with two engineers who gave me straightforward algorithms questions. One of the engineers told me that he honestly told me that WRKSHP (He still called it Pennypop) was a temporary gig while he figures some things out. He had to work here because his last place lost funding. That was his answer for my question, "Where do you see this company going?" "It's a stepping stone," the manager told me who continued with the same tone. I felt like I should have left there, or like they were purposefully trying to get me to leave. I already paid for parking for the whole day and cut out a chunk of my own time. I was going to meet a friend for dinner afterwards, so I stayed. Plus, it's polite to stay and finish the process. I read a review below me...and it seems like they didn't do the person the same courtesy. The CFO wanted to interview me at the end. He walked in, and hadn't even read my resume. He looked upset, like I had bothered him today by showing up. He was trying to find my resume on his laptop, gave up, and just asked me to repeat it. He showed little to no interest, and I was puzzled why he's there. I could see he was working on something while I was talking. "Multi-tasking." He asked me like 1 question, "Do you like games?" Then he expected me to carry the rest of the conversation and ask all the questions. I got tired, and I'm pretty sure he could tell that I didn't care about this place at all because I just didn't care by this point. I guess he does exists as the final challenge. See if you can get past an interview with a man who doesn't care about the fact that you spent money and time to see him. I walked out thinking that I wasted a day. I took a vacation day to come here? I didn't let WRKSHP ruin my day. I grabbed dinner with my friend, we went out and saw the sights, and had a great time despite this horrid place. I feel bad for the assistant or whoever is going to reply with to this comment.

what a garbage company. As I do have more experience now, I was digging through my emails to see if I could reapply to some companies when I remember coming across WRKSHP. I applied in the fall of 2016 and got a coding challenge. They also said if you had any questions, don't hesitate to ask. I had some questions about the company which I asked the recruiter and no response.... I then get a followup saying thanks for confirming your availability to take the coding challenge. The initial "if you have any questions..." came from the second email i got from them after the automated "enter your availability now." So just from that, it's pretty clear they got my email as I had sent them some questions, and then they choose to ignore it and send me another email which was the coding challenge prompt. was a simple question in retrospect, thought I did okay on it. Then no response.... weeks eventually go by so at that point I know they rejected me. Honestly, because the coding challenge was two hours and the fact that you ignored my questions about the company.... please do something about the way you treat your candidates. Interviewing is a two way street. If you continue this streak, where the candidate puts time and effort and you completely ignore them, I don't see how wrkshp will ever grow and scale. Some may argue that for technical roles that they only care about technical skills, but with that logic, you'll definitely be hiring people that won't be a fit into your work environment unless everyone is as rude as the way I was treated. Anybody who is reading this, please do be wary if you get a coding challenge from them as you may just be putting in time and effort with no feedback on why you won't be moving on and get completely ghosted. tldr; garbage of a company who i can't see growing and scaling.
