I was contacted by a recruiter shortly after submitting my resume. The lady thought she was speaking with someone else as she mentioned speaking with me at a previous time, which was not the case. Red flag for me if the recruiter can't remember who she spoke with. I had a phone interview with one of the regional managers and it took well over 2 hours. All behavioral questions posed behind benign sounding questions, such as "tell me about a time in your life that was very difficult for you to overcome" or asking questions that were answered on the application such as "where did you go to high school/college". The lady was pleasant but I felt as if I was applying for the CEO position with the amount of time spent on the phone. I was also asked (several different ways) if I volunteered for any organization or cause. After we completed the phone interview, she asked if I was available to do a personal interview. Meeting with her for the personal interview, I was asked more questions (behavioral) and was asked to take a 40 question quiz that I had to complete in 15 minutes. The quiz had nothing to do with property management or related skills or behavioral qualities, but rather a test, it seemed, of whether I actually had a brain in my head (number sequences, word problems, how the first two words relate to another pair of words, etc.) I felt that quiz should be on the website to be completed at the time of the application so that anyone who didn't pass it was immediately eliminated. I asked if the quiz had any impact on the selection, to which I was told a great deal. (Well, I thought at this point that I was in because I did well.) There was a stack of about 8 applications/tests/interviewees sitting on her desk. Another red flag, as I wondered why there were so many if this was the final interview, as it is usually narrowed down to the last 2-3 fully qualified applicants. I was informed that they would have a decision in 2-3 days, and I would be contacted. I have interviewed many people in my career and have been on numerous interviews as an applicant, but this was a very long, drawn out process. I personally feel that it is a waste of the applicant's time to spend 2-3 hours on personal/behavioral questions unless they are seriously being considered for the position.
