They ask you questions like 'How do you cope with criticism?' etc. It's not really thjat difficult. I had the impression that all you needed was to be a native English speaker with a pulse.

I was interviewed at a budget hotel in London for a position in Madrid as a teacher. I was met in the cafeteria of the hotel which was noisy and not entirely suitable for an interview. The interviewer was friendly and the questions were all straightforward. I was asked to email a short piece of writing to the interviewer after the interview to check my written writing ability.

Initial interview was a one hour one-to-one with Recruitment Manager. That was pleasant with typical questions about experience, dealing with difficult situations, coping with stress etc. It was emphasised that they prefer people without teaching experience - I had 7 years of previous teaching experience but was able to adapt to the "Vaughan method" (which is really Callan method, adapted to Spanish needs and typical mistakes Spaniards make). The two-week boot camp that followed was completely ridiculous. At the time it was unpaid, you come in early and get trained for 3-4 hours in the morning, have half an hour for lunch, and then you teach groups or individuals till late evening, with little or no materials but the ones that you prepared the night before ( in addition to other homework that was assigned). Everyday someone gets "fired", sometimes because their homework wasn't good enough, sometimes because they got bad reviews...we started with 12 people and 4 of us successfully completed the training and actually got hired. I think that this training is aimed to test your resistance to stress, charisma in front of your students, character and ability to improvise and work under pressure. The "Big Brother" approach makes it unnecessarily stressful, recruitment team often lack professionalism or proper training and the whole experience definitely aims to fish out people who are motivated to stay on the job and will not ask too many questions.

      Question 1

How would cope with a situation when you have two students in a class who are obviously of different levels (too high/too low)?
