J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris 3 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien chez Varsity Tutors (Austin, TX) en déc. 2021

      Entretien

I found them through my LinkedIn Inmail and was keen on serving the education industry. Their culture seemed to be a good fit, but after the interviews was left with a mixed feeling. The first interview was with the technical recruiter, very personable. She even reassured they don't ask those tricky software puzzles to trip you up. Then it was the manager/ director(?), also a compassionate interviewer, who said by the time I join, I could brush up my SQL which was rusty, and I appreciated that he could see that I had done this stuff before. A lot of other tech companies want their candidate to be rattling out the one thing they work on, discounting the breadth and depth of other experiences, and probably could have stopped here. The next interview was with a tech lead, who I later discovered, was a former Mech Engineer by degree, like me, and then moved on to software. He asked some behavorial questions, I answered well. Then there was a relatively easy coding problem, which I handled OK, although I didn't talk about the idiomatic pythonic solution because he was abruptly done with the coding section and wanted to move on to the portion where I ask questions. My best guess is I mentioned spending 5 hours per week on teaching data science after hours, and that might have raised concerns, even though he didn't explicitly say so. Anyway that

      Questions d'entretien [1]

      Question 1

SQL question: Customers have multiple contacts, each of the contacts can have multiple addresses, phone numbers, emails. Come up with a database schema and a query to find the phone number of a particular contact of a given customer. What data type should the 'type' field be in the phone table? Design a REST API that would (a) get a contact home phone for a given customer, and (b) update a phone number. Behavorial: Describe a time when you stepped up to do something above and beyond what was expected of you Python: Given a wrapper around Twilio CRUD APIs, we encounter a 1 in 2000 failures due to network glitches, which can be fixed with a retry. Implement this retry, first with a simple function, then for all of them.

The process was disorganized, and they were not available to share feedback about the interview. It is not clear what they are evaluating or what is the criteria for assessing the candidates, seems a bit not serious and disorganized.

Had a call with a recruiter, then a tech interview, everything went well, they told me they will contact me for next steps and I did not receive a response to any of emails after that.

They reach me out in LinkedIn and schedule a meeting. Not a negative work or feedback from the recruiter, every requirement and experience was aligned with them. Than I received an email just saying that they decided that I did not pass to start a technical step. If they reached me out and not the other way and they didn't make any technical interview, how did they decide on that?
