J'ai postulé en ligne. J'ai passé un entretien chez VICE News
Entretien
It was a phone interview as I was overseas. I did it at midnight my time to fit in with the interviewers schedule in New York. In the middle of the interview, his wife called and he chatted with her for a while and then hastily wrapped up. I had vastly more experience than the hiring manager but it was obvious that not only wasn't he interested but he put obstacles in my way (see below on Interview Questions). I think they only went through the motions because I applied in a different country and it was subject to the laws of the country where I applied and where they had a subsidiary office. I had to do a writing test. I had to write an article. I had an hour to do it (did it midnight my time due to the time difference) and was told that I would be given their style guide as my article had to conform to their style. I wasn't sent their style guide before or during the test. I wrote it without the style guide. And their reason for rejecting me was because my article did not conform to their style! The questions and attitude throughout was extremely misogynistic and I could tell that it was a culture that tolerated women rather than considered them partners. Interesting to see now a story break on the New York Times about widespread sexual harassment of women at Vice News. Not at all surprised. My experience left a very bad taste in my mouth. The interviewer/hiring manager then left to a major network where I believe he now works and probably brought the same modus operandi.
