      Candidature

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris 5 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien chez UtilityAPI (Oakland, CA) en juin 2019

      Entretien

Interview Process — Started with a 1 hour technical assessment using python, followed by 3 phone interviews, then an all day interview on site with all the members. Once finished, I was asked for a reference and then was handed the offer a week later. Took about 6 weeks in total. Most people were very nice and friendly, and I had a great time getting to know them and the company. The technical assessment was challenging yet reasonable, and the online application was very simple and straightforward. Unfortunately, the hiring manager who oversees the day-to-day operations was not so friendly. During the in-person 1-1 interview, this manager sighed on multiple occasions very loudly in an unprofessional way that conveyed they were bored or unimpressed, fidgeted with their phone while we were speaking, and then mentioned at the end that there were multiple other quality candidates still needing to be interviewed, in what I felt was a method to instill fear and show power over me. Additionally, the manager spoke down to me extremely condescendingly via email a few times. Considering the small size of the company, I was not willing to tolerate such behavior from the direct manager.

      Questions d'entretien [2]

      Question 1

Hundreds of people took the test who had more experience than you, yet many of them failed and you passed. Why do you think that is?

      Question 2

The technical assessment consisted of parsing PDF/HTML files. Interviewer reviewed the technical assessment results after passing and asked “what would you do differently if this script broke while reading a new PDF format? Walk me through your process of how you’d handle this.
