      Entretien

I applied for a dev role thinking that they'd be open to part time contractors since the job ad says contract in it. I also put that as one of the reasons why I was interested within the application prompt questions section and specifically mentioned I'm in North America. The initial phone interview setup was done online and the only slot available was 2:15AM Eastern time (4:15PM Sydney time). I booked it anyway thinking that the recruiter was busy. I did however email 6 hours before and said that I had availability earlier if possible since the time was a little late, but the recruiter never acknowledged that at all nor offered a different time. I understand that people can be busy and assumed that, but to not even acknowledge or respond to that email is a bit questionable to me especially since I was a recruiter in my past career. I'd like to give benefit of the doubt to the recruiter, but to me it sounded like she didn't really know I was based in Canada. She mentioned I was the first person to be interviewed in Canada whereas the rest have been in Sydney and the Phillipines. She asked about my hourly rate, and was trying to convert it into a different currency while on the call, but gave up (maybe could have done that prior to the call since I provided my hourly salary expectations in the job ad prompt questions?). Also mentioned that work hours are specifically in Sydney time. When I asked how that would work with someone in Canada, she simply responded with "I'd have to follow up with the team", which I think is something that should be completely fleshed out if you're open to interviewing international candidates. Lastly, I asked about the next stage which she mentioned was a 48 hour technical test, which the team would then review and decide on next steps. She said she'd send me the details on this sometime after the interview (she did not). I emailed a couple days later to see if I'd still be getting it and she said the team hasn't reviewed the interview notes she sent to the team "last week" (mind you it was 2 days ago and I guess the interview process has changed all of a sudden?) and then 2 hours later I received a generic rejection letter. I don't usually feel compelled to write negative reviews, but felt I needed to vent out my frustrations with this one. I went out of my way to accommodate for an interview that was overall not a great experience.
