      Entretien pour User Experience Designer

      Pittsburgh, PA
      Offre refusée
      Expérience négative

      Candidature

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris 6 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien chez UPMC (Pittsburgh, PA) en févr. 2019

      Entretien

First phase is a phone interview. Basic, common phone interview and a brief high level review while on the phone. The next phase is an onsite in-person. This is generally about 3 hours long. The first part is meeting again with the same manager who did the phone interview for a more in depth portfolio review. The next step in this is meeting with, who I believe is, the director over all UX. Very easy and laid back. This is more of a conversation about the company culture and structure of the organization. You get a feeling that management is pretty relaxed. The next part is a design challenge. This is a bit more nerve racking as you'll be asked to solve a problem on the spot. They more or less want to see your thought process and how you took steps to arrive at a final solution. The final step is meeting the UX team. This can be where things go sour - as they did for me. Meeting the team was fairly relaxed and informal. It's strictly with the team and no manager in a closed room. However, there are individuals who have a "smarter than you" mentality and make it very difficult to answer questions without feeling like they are trying to flex their intelligence. This part of the interview process made me reconsider wanting to work at UPMC as I couldn't see having friction with the team and not feeling it was so competitive that I was going to be thrown under the bus constantly by someone who is trying to be more superior, or smarter, or whatever they need to prove to feel good about themselves. I've worked with a number of clients, stakeholders, and teams through my career and never have I felt such a negative vibe in a meeting with a group of people. It's almost like they are forced to do it and they take advantage to talk down to the candidate. I ultimately declined their offer because of the team and the vibe of working with this team.
