I sent my resume into the professor that runs a research lab I was interested in. Within a week she responded wanting to set up a face to face interview. During the interview, she asked some technical questions about composite materials (my focus in education) as well as general engineering questions. The main component of the interview was a lab tour in which she analyzed my questions about testing procedures and analysis. She wanted to hear thoughtful questions to make sure I had a good background in the material.
