      Candidature

J'ai postulé via un recruteur. J'ai passé un entretien chez UBDS (Bristol, Angleterre) en nov. 2025

      Entretien

At first was fine. Quick turn around after CV submission and then a first stage interview was set up. Was told the interview would be with 3 people. Got on the call and found it was just one person as one of the others didn't realise they were on annual leave and the 3rd person wasn't even acknowledged as missing. I was told by the recruiter it would be an informal tech chat around my CV and experience. What followed was an exam style Q and A of things that anyone could google to get the answer yet I was expected to know textbook answers off the top of my head. I am a DevOps Engineer but was asked multiple questions about Python coding which has never happened in an interview for this role before. It seemed like the guy interviewing me was not used to the process or how to question potential candidates. I tried repeatedly to relate answers back to my project experience but I was repeatedly cut off once I gave the textbook answer he was clearly looking for from the sheet of questions he was reading from. Despite this, I was told at the end that I was through to the next stage which would be an informal chat with the COO. I gave my availability and was told something was booked in for a specific time and date. In the mean time I was sent a Gorilla Test that I was told was standard and just asked things like time management and culture fit. Imagine my surprise when one of the rounds were more exam style questions on a variety of AWS/DevOps topics which I was unprepared for but luckily I had recently been preparing for a DevOps exam so managed to get through this. Had confirmation that I had passed all rounds with high scores. I received no email confirmation for the call with the COO and when I followed up twice with the recruitment contact at UBDS who had previously emailed me, both of my emails were ignored. I even tried adding the COO on LinkedIn to try to sort something directly but that was ignored too. I was told the person who I was meant to speak to was too busy to speak to me and they were trying to find another time/date. The external recruiter I was dealing with who was initially very responsive then started to leave my chaser messages on read or just didn't read them at all. I have now withdrawn myself because if this is how they handle candidates then I wont expect the working culture within to be any better. I learned little to nothing about the company in my first interview as the only guy that as there was new and seemed very out of place. All in all, terrible experience. Awful interviewing format, incorrect prep for the interview and horrendous communication for a candidate they were apparently interested in.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We appreciate that interview processes can be stressful, and we’re genuinely sorry to hear that your experience did not meet expectations. We aim to run respectful, well-prepared interviews that allow candidates to showcase their experience while also learning about us, and it’s clear from your comments that we fell short on this occasion - particularly around communication and clarity of process. We are reviewing this feedback carefully with our recruitment partners and internal teams to ensure we improve the experience for future candidates. We wish you the very best in your continued job search and thank you again for raising these points.
