      Entretien

Online application with resume and cover letter, plus sharing a portfolio. Was contacted four days later to set up a call with the recruiter. Had a great conversation with the recruiter and was looking forward to continuing the process of interviewing. Seems like an interesting company and great products. Next, coordinator sets up an interview with the person who would be the future manager. The appointment is confirmed by myself and the coordinator, as well as the fact that the future manager would call me and what number they would call me on. The appointment time rolls around and no call. Sat by the phone for 15 minutes past the appointment end-time, just in case the time difference was the problem. Nope, no call. Email the coordinator back, and when the coordinator returns from PTO, they inform me that the future manager attempted to contact me but somehow couldn't get a hold of me. My phone number and email are on my resume, my cover letter, and in my portfolio. We decide to reschedule, and I made sure point out to the coordinator that the future manager is welcome to contact me by email if they cannot reach me by phone. Second interview appointment goes by. Again, wait for 15 minutes past the end of the appointment time, just in case. No call, no email. And yes, I triple-checked my spam folder just in case. Sent a follow up email to the coordinator to let them know what happened. Coordinator gets back to me in a quick time frame to tell me again, that somehow this manager wasn't able to get a hold of me. The coordinator also informs that they've decided to go with an internal candidate. Since other companies have been able to reach me just fine and so could the Twilio coordinator, I'm pretty sure that my telephone and email work. I can't speak for the other departments, but this was unprofessional and begs the question of the skill level of this manager. Originally, I was going to end this review at the paragraph above but the experience has gotten even weirder. In my reply to the coordinator, I thanked them for their time and told them that I enjoyed working with them but that I was no longer interested in their company and wanted to be removed from their database of candidates. Should have been case closed, or at most a "we'll remove you from our database" reply from the coordinator, right? Surprisingly, no - they emailed me back and showed me the potential future manager's reply to them where the manager admitted he did indeed have my resume. Despite the suggestion to email me if there was an issue with reaching me for the second phone interview, this person chose not to. Even weirder still was that they shared a mobile screen capture of the call attempts. Since the recruiter mentioned that they use a video conferencing service, like Skype, for interviews - why not email me and invite me to join a video call? This is by far one of the strangest interview experiences I've ever had. I get that sometimes companies go with internal candidates, that's not a big deal, but going through these convolutions to avoid talking to me doesn't make any sense.

Having to wait around not once, but twice, for a call is frustrating and not respectful of your time. While the pace of our business can be hectic, we need to honor our appointments and respect peoples' time. Thank you for sharing your feedback and we will use it to train our team.

Screening with recruiter went very well, but was never called back even though they expressed interest in moving me forward in the interview process. Was suprised due to great communication process.

The process started with an initial phone call interview with recruiter. Then came a portfolio review of my different technical writing samples. Then I was given a writing sample assignment. After this, I had a Bar Raiser interview with a Twilio employee, then three 45-minute interviews with different Twilio team members.

I was assigned an onboarding buddy and provided with a detailed 90-day plan. Onboarding was guided every step of the way. Open, transparent, and welcoming environment, and I felt like I belonged and was very much valued from day one. It's definitely the people who make Twilio. You will feel very supported.
