Before the interview, applicants had to complete a very basic multiple choice test demonstrating competence in writing and submit a background check. The interview itself took the form of a quick overview of the tutoring software (mostly just what information the different menus contained) and then several standard interview questions. These questions were answered via the chat function of tutoring software. Apparently, this was a new way of conducting these interviews as the demand for online school resources due to covid had required that the company develop a faster way of hiring new employees. This replaced the old system (all of the resources on their site still referenced the previous process, which was very confusing and made it hard to prepare correctly for the interview) where the applicant would have to not only answer interview questions but demonstrate competence using the tutoring software. It served as both an interview and a training session; the training segment of the interview was reduced to almost nothing. Because of the new system, I felt completely overwhelmed when I actually began the position, in stark contrast to the easiness of everything provided through the interview and training process. The brief overview of the system was insufficient to use it comfortably (I basically had to figure out how to use the system while trying to help a student and being under an inflexible time limit), and the mentoring system which was supposed to replace the previous training process was very slow. I did not receive my first communication from my mentor until after a whole week of work, and it only consisted an email containing a few pdfs that I had already discovered easily in their resource center.
