First bit of advice, this is not the place to casually drop off an application. It's an awesome complany and have very little if any employee turn-over. A year ago, I handed in my application and resume' to a couple of the stores closest to my home and in the following months continued to "check in" to stay on their radar. Knowing the season would be picking up, a couple months ago I made the rounds and re-applied to 7 stores (in person, making sure I met and got to know people at the store). One store called, I had an interview with 2 people, one of which was the Captain (Mgr) and it went very well -- they even said I was looking good as a fit for the store :-) Said they'd call with word if I'd be invited for a 2nd interview. A few days later, another store called and I interviewed with them, but receieved a "thanks, no" letter from the Capt. (who I never actually got to meet.) Useful observation: Though one company, stores are uniquely different depending on management, crew, location and customer base. I think that's cool. First store I interviewed with calls me for a 2nd, meeting two new supervisors. Goes very well, their response to me and mine to them is very positive, a good fit. Captain calls me a few days later to say "we don't have an opening." I'm literally stunned after 2 interviews and great feedback. Ask if they could keep me in mind, or if they do/don't think I'm a good fit; answer: "you're welcome to re-apply." I've heard their policy is not to give feedback -- and they mean it! So, sign me "Confused" because if there was a problem or misunderstanding, I will never know! The only thing I can think is that I've been self-employed for most of my adult life -- jobs and experience that would surely relate to and enhance my working at TJ's. I articulated this in a 1-pg cover letter / resume' desiged to be fun, a little quirky (like the Fearless Flyer) and WOW! to let them know I've done my research and really 'get' the company. I noticed the first interview, more questions were addressed to my being self-employed - "How do you feel about ...supervisors?" (did they think I was thinking I could do the job from ....home? ;-) Assured them I was ready for a change, I welcome the idea of coming under a company that is well run (they have done quite well over the years with nary a consult form me!) and I really respect the management. Just show me what to do and I will do it well. What's funny, once I realized this was a concern to them and I asked about it, a couple different people (mgmt) said, "Oh, no we have people from many different backgrounds, so (self-employed or not) doesn't matter." I felt that was a little contrdictory as both stores where I interviewed were focused on this. Also, from a couple other stores who didn't even select me for an interview, wouldn't say why they didn't select or hire me, but gave me a card and a smile to "keep checkin' in." (???) Again, straight answers and the opportunity to improve would have been most welcome. Anyway... a shout-out to the GlassDoor community because I did read every single comment and interview and was more than prepared going in. Thanks!

It's two to three interviews, the final with the Captain (or highest manager) of the store. The interviews are largely to get to know your personality and how well you would do at customer service.

Very chill, asked things a lot of job interviews don't, more personal down to earth questions. Made me feel very comfortable. Professional but also cool vibes from everyone who interviewed me. Went to one interview with mates and another with the captain.
