Thought Works invited senior people from renowned companies for a work shop based interview. Workshop was run by Junior folks, who could not answer questions like what ThoughtWorks offered to their customers while giving overview . Workshop sounded more like training of Junior PM's then evaluation. It was not worth attending , Funny part at end of interview was one of Manager was asking ThoughtWorks PM who organized this to create a learning platform through this

I applied online and within a week one of their recruiters got in touch with me and we had a positive discussion. She was genuinely nice. Then I had a very basic technical interview through Skype with 2 people (one junior, one senior) and then I was invited for one day in Barcelona, where they paid for my flight tickets and hotel but not for any food or taxi, which cost me a lot of money. The hotel was not the best and I struggled to get a good night's sleep as it was packed with schools (teenagers) on holiday but I guess you cannot blame them for this. The interview experience was a mixed bag! The day started with a case study where you are given an hour to prepare and then present to three interviewers, who pretend they are the clients. It felt from the start as an overly simplistic role-playing game where they pretend they are a tough client and you are supposed to explain why a project is late with little context. It wasn't difficult or challenging but it felt completely staged, unnatural and very prescriptive (full of stereotypes). It felt awkward throughout and never understood how this was going to help them understand me. In the end I was told that they didn't like my answers as they didn't fit with their preconceived ideas. Although from one side they talk a lot about diversity and inclusion, and how open-minded they are, on the other side they have designed a very particular simulation where they expect to get the 'right' answers and fit you in a box. When I explained that different people would behave in different ways due to their diverse experience and style and can still be successful, they didn't want to discuss about it and they thought I was defensive. For a company that is claiming to be a proponent of continuous learning it is quite strange how they don't accept feedback or don't see alternative approaches. After that, I had a technical interview, a cultural interview and an interview with the director. They were all really nice people and I thought that I had some good discussions. Overall, some really nice people but I don't think that their process helped them in getting to know me better or understand me as a candidate or what I could bring to the business, which is a real pity. Also, they gave the impression that the projects they do are quite small in size and they are quite basic in project management. In my view, this is probably a good company for young developers that want to build their skills, knowledge and reputation but I wouldn't recommend it to non-developers and other more senior professionals who expect much more from their careers.
