There were various parts to the assessment, including an interview with a 3 minute presentation which you needed to email in on the day. My interviewer timed my presentation and said they were going to cut me off if I went over. Everyone who assessed you does it blind without talking to the others or reading your application, so you need to try and make as big an impression on everyone as possible. There was a group activity as well where we read over a case study and role played as social workers taking it in turn to highlight important sections and decide what action we would want to take going forward. There was a role play with an actor as well which you can’t really prepare for. My role play was taking over a colleagues case who had abruptly left, and meeting a service user who had built up a good relationship with them and was disgruntled about having me as a new social worker. They were also potentially having a manic bi polar episode, while being in recovery and recently starting to work in a pub with an co-addictive/abusive partner in a pub. Plus her sister had died in a car crash, and her mum blamed her for her death as she had been driving the car. The mum then had a stroke half way through our meeting, and I had to tell her that her step father didn’t want her to visit, her mum at the hospital.
