The interview process is rather confusing and odd. I felt a lack of desire to hire people that are interested and more of a desire to please and fit a look. I truly believe that anything I said wouldn’t have been taken into account. The hiring manager was kind of pretentious and spent time talking about their 20 years of experience. It was awkward as they didn’t even ask about my background or learn about my interest in the role. They went directly into really tough interview questions almost as if they were trying to meet an HR requirement rather than actually interested in hiring and getting to know me. My suggestion when interviewing POC queer folx is to try your best to get to know them without making the interviews feel formal and like an exam. Interviews should be designed to learn more and see why the candidate would be a good fit and how YOUR organization will be a good fit for the candidate. Interest works on both sides. It makes me wonder what the culture is like. Hopefully it’s not toxic. Also, it makes me feel like they don’t hire a lot of Black or brown folks regularly based on my interaction.

The beginning of the process was super easy. I was invited to an interview 1 month after submitting my application online. I had a conversation with the HR recruiter and was told to expect a response in the next 1-2 weeks. I was sent an email where I could easily set up a call to check in with the recruiter on the process when I needed. After not hearing anything after 2 weeks I set up a chat and was told the process was ongoing and that I should hear back in another week. I never heard back and its been 2 months.
