I was called for an interview and asked if I could come in short notice. I was unemployed, so I of course said yes. I arrived on time and waited about five minutes. The manager asked me basic questions, and while I was a bot nervous, I felt I did alright. She was very cheerful and seemed impressed. I was then told she would call on the Wednesday following, and if she didn't I was to call her.
Then I waited.
Then I called when she told me to. She told me they had filled the position. As someone who was new to interviews, I asked if she could tell me her impression of my interview. She sharply said no and hung up.
She had lied about filling the position. My boyfriend at the time had also applied, and had been given an interview for the next day. She even gave him a second interview, but then told him the job had been filled by someone with previous Taco Bell experience.

I was scheduled do have an interview with the regional manager Israel, however when I arrived, he wasn’t there. Instead, I was interviewed by the manager of that location (unfortunately I’ve forgotten her name but she was really nice and cool). She told me about the work and about how that specific location was a fairly easy job. I was asked about my schedule, which I confirmed was open and flexible, and if I would be going on vacation this summer, which I would not be. I was told that Israel would contact me later that day to set up a proper in person interview sometime later. Over a week later I receive an email telling me that they would be hiring someone who “more closely fit their needs.” At no point in the original interview or application process was I asked about my experience, if I had I would have told them that I had over 5 years experience in retail and 2 years experience cleaning kitchens. I tried reaching out to see why I had been rejected when it seemed pretty obvious that the person in charge of hiring wasn’t doing their job properly, and unsurprisingly, I never heard back from Taco Bell.

I met with the manager for a quick conversation about my availability, past experience, and why I liked the company. The discussion was straightforward and friendly, and the whole interview felt efficient, low‑pressure, and surprisingly comfortable overall.
