I applied on the website for a data science position. I spoke with a recruiter and thoroughly enjoyed that conversation. The recruiter made it clear that Survey Monkey is a great place to work and has a great culture.
However, for some reason the recruiter seemed to believe I was a "not quite junior but not senior" candidate -- I have a PhD and four years experience in data science. I should have corrected her, but I was so thrown off by her mis-assessment of my level that I didn't react at the time, thinking it would become clear my level of seniority at a phone or onsite interview, or when an actual data scientist looked at my resume.
For the next steps, they had a junior data scientist (master's level with one year experience -- Survey Monkey is his first job) interview me. We discussed how to design an algorithm for detecting spam. I liked the conversation but was a bit uncomfortable with the fact that they had someone so junior interview me. How on earth could he tell whether I'd be a good candidate for a senior position?
Finally about 1.5 weeks later I got a form rejection (i.e. not personalized) email saying "thanks for giving us a chance to consider your resume". Do they always do this after a phone interview? It sounded like something you would send if you never spoke with the candidate at all. It was such a bizarre process to me. It seems like they never quite took my application seriously. I also think I may have undersold myself a bit and it's a lesson to be more aggressive about my skills and level of seniority earlier in the process.

There was a technical screen using a surveymonkey survey for the questions followed by a phone call with the hiring manager and an onsite interview that consisted of 5 different interview.

Entretien
During the interview, we began with describing my strenghts and how they will help me, what inspires me in Data Science, how the job will be organized. Overall, the interview went very nice.
