Asked for references before an offer, provided an offer, 0 negotiations, got references, 3 more hours of interviewing, positive feedback on each reference until called into zoom meeting and offer retracted. Apparently, one of my references was told "We don't think we have engineers like those that ***** is used to". Since I'm used to good engineers who use good practices I presume that can only mean one thing. Overall, bullet dodged.
