      Entretien

I've spoken to 15 companies so far in my current job search, and haven't posted any other reviews yet, but this one struck me as so strange that I have to mention it. First of all, the person contacting me about the role was an intern from a consulting company. Not a recruiter or the hiring manager. I am certain that this person has no prior experience in hiring people, and it is confusing why the company chose him to be the primary point of contact for a leadership role. The intern told me to book some time on his calendar, which I did, and then told me to cancel that time because he forgot to update his calendar. After picking a time that worked for him, he forgot about the appointment, and I had to send him an email reminder after our meeting had started, before he called me 15 minutes late. I spoke to him for about 20 minutes to get an overview of the position. The intern made a few communication errors during the call that I had to pause and go back to get clarification on. Something I found very surprising was that the next step in their hiring process was doing a 4 hour take-home assessment, before even meeting with the hiring manager to talk about the role. Additionally, I was shocked that the company's intended compensation package was $100K lower than what the market is paying now for this kind of position. Really. $100K under market. That's a lot. The intern mentioned something about wanting candidates to be excited about the position, but I don't see how that's possible when the company's philosophy is to demand a 4 hour project from candidates before even meeting with the hiring manager, and then massively under-paying them if they actually get the job. Also, I was very puzzled that I was interviewing for a job with an intern with no hiring experience, who doesn't even know how to properly schedule or keep an appointment. At this point, I had more than enough information to tell him that I was not interested. This review is not a criticism of the intern. He's just an intern - I wouldn't expect much better. Really, this is a criticism of the company leadership intentionally designing its hiring process in a poorly thought-out and disrespectful manner to the candidate.
