They give you an assessment test first before conducting any interviews and you need to finish it within 72 hours. They expected you to mockup both customer and client-facing sides of the entire app as well as a flowchart and any additional notes. It took 2 weeks for them to get back to me and I was not given an initial interview. Both emails that were sent was BCC'd to me, which hints that many others have applied and had gotten the same rejection email as me. As quoted from the email "Please know that the competition was fierce and many highly qualified submissions were not selected" It felt like I wasted my time. I don't even know if they'll be stealing and using my designs after my submission.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear about your experience and appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns. We understand that completing an assessment before an initial interview can be time-consuming. Our intention with this process is to evaluate each candidate's skills fairly and thoroughly, helping us identify the best fit for our team. This is a common practice across the industry. Regarding the delay in our response, we regret that it took longer than anticipated to get back to you. We are constantly working to improve our communication and turnaround times. The BCC method was used to maintain the privacy of our candidates, but we aim to personalize our responses in the future to ensure a more individual approach. To address your concern about the use of your designs, please rest assured that we do not use or intend to use any candidate's work beyond evaluating their skillset and fit for the position. This assessment is based on a past project that our team worked on years ago, and we have no use for your unsuccessful submission. In terms of the scope of the assessment, we encourage candidates to carefully review the assessment notes. The requirements specifically asked for a user journey map for only one portion of the app (the driver sign-up process) and a mood board or low-fidelity mock-ups to communicate your ideas. We hope this clarifies any misunderstandings regarding the expectations. Your feedback is appreciated, and we will use it to improve our processes. If you have any further concerns or questions, please feel free to reach out to us directly. Thank you again for your time and effort. Best regards

They email you asking to do a design test of an "unexisting app" without compensation with the chance of going to the first round of interviews. The design test took several hours to do and I was BCC'd an email that I did not qualify. I tried asking for feedback and was ghosted. Later, I found out that this was actually creating an existing app that they already made. The entire process felt extremely unprofessional and deceiving.

I applied online. They make you do a design test before even getting an initial interview. You have 72 hours to mock up a massive amount of screens for a fictitious app with notes. I received my initial interview quickly. During this interview with the Product Manager which was only 20 mins, it felt rushed, I had to go over my work, answer her questions and during that time she did not explain anything about the company or the role at all. I had to use my own questions at the end to ask about the role itself and we ended up going over time. I was told there would be another longer interview after this if I was successful. Then I didn't hear back for 2 weeks until I got a bcc email (how professional) saying "we are still in the process of making a decision for next steps. We should have a decision by next week." Another 2 weeks after that I get another bcc email saying that they've moved forward with another candidate. I seriously question the hiring practices of this company. They claim they are busy and the design test is to help them streamline their decision making process but by now they have thousands of free work and wasted a lot of people's time.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience interviewing with us was negative and appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns. We understand that completing an assessment can be time-consuming. We believe that this step is essential for evaluating a candidate's skill set and ensuring the best fit for our team. This approach is quite common in the industry. Regarding the interview, I want to clarify that we don’t have any product managers on our team at Speer. The initial call was with our Chief Strategy Officer (CSO), who would have been your manager. This call is intended to review your assessment and get a sense of your background. Our goal with shorter interviews is to cover your work and provide an overview of the next steps to accomodate to all candidates. We also provide candidates with the opportunity to ask questions to ensure they have all the information they need about the role and the company. We apologize for the delay in our response and are actively working to improve our communication and turnaround times. The summer season, with many team members on vacation, contributed to this delay. The BCC method was used to maintain the privacy of all candidates, but we understand how it may have felt impersonal. We aim to provide more personalized responses in the future. To address your concern about the use of your designs, please be assured that we do not use or intend to use any candidate's work beyond evaluating their skill set and fit for the position. The assessment is based on a past project from years ago, and we do not retain or use unsuccessful submissions. Regarding the scope of the assessment, we encourage candidates to review the provided notes carefully. The requirements specifically asked for a user journey map for one portion of the app (the driver sign-up process) and a mood board or a few low-fidelity mock-ups to communicate your ideas. This should not have taken more than a couple of hours. We hope this helps clarify any misunderstandings about the expectations. Your feedback is valuable and will help us refine our processes. If you have any further concerns or questions, please feel free to reach out to us directly. Thank you again for your time and effort. Best regards
