      Candidature

J'ai postulé via un recruteur. J'ai passé un entretien chez Speechify en janv. 2026

      Entretien

Interview process: 1. Screening call with recruiter (30 min) 2. iOS debugging challenge (1.45h) 3. Check up call with recruiter (15 min) - this could have been an email 4. SwiftUI challenge (1.10h) 5. DSA (15 min) + System Design (2h together) 6. Behavioral round (30 min) 7. call with CEO? (15 min) 1. Recruiter reached out to me via e-mail about the role. At the end there was weird discussion regarding the compensation expectations. Recruiter pulled out levels.fyi for my region and was really skeptical about meeting my requirements. This was almost a red flag for me, and I was skeptical since. Decided to follow the process anyway, just for curiosity and maybe some practice. Checked both iOS app, which had some really low quality text to speech in free version, macOS app was really simple 2 features app (text to speech, speech to text), where one did not work at all. That was disappointing. Practical coding challenges. Both proctored, call recorded (duh), person on call just gave u access to private repo, briefly explained what is going on and the timer was fired. AI suggestions in XCode must be off, no search online. 3. 3 tasks. AI generated/junior engineer code, unclear, lot of dead code which was just midirection or cause confusion. Anyway, swiftui and combine related stuff, view redraws, StateObject's vs ObervableObjects etc. Essentially, quite tight on time due to this, but potentially manageable if you have experience with those frameworks involved. 4. build 3 screen app with some data being loaded. Pretty straightforward. Mine was even terminated after 10-15 minutes sooner, don't know why. I finished in time anyway. Generally, imho better than the one before. 5. Moving forward, DSA + System Design round (2h): Didn't pass. Didn't prepare. I was pretty tired of the process and lost interest after seeing the product. I already decided to pursue other job offers and had interview scheduled right after that. Still went for it out of curiosity. Solve topological sort algo. System design "onboarding flow" of the app. 3 engineers on call, only one talked, no one even introduced themselves. They wanted a system design in XCode, based on protocols (???). Input: some vague description in online file figma file with about 10 screens, link to dummy REST API for the screens data. Generally, was very confusing, expected some standard high level design, drawing and stuff. Over the course of the interview the interviewer leading the interview kept having connection issues, had to repeat a lot of stuff. I lost interest, and terminated the interview. Generally, people involved in the process were nice. But the process is disappointment. ~7 rounds (!), company with $15m revenue... Long coding challenges, that are poorly defined. You being recorded. Company's products seem to lack quality, and they felt like kind of standard "glue thousand frameworks together and do a lot of rest api calls" type. Also, felt like they are trying to hire for little money.
