I applied online, received e-mail communication from one recruiter, and then did not hear back for a while. I took a risk in sounding too persistent and e-mailed them a few times over the course of a month with reminders to hopefully get the ball rolling. Turns out it worked for my case, because we then scheduled a phone interview and I received an offer the same week! Some advice - get to know the company through the people (ie articles and videos), not just canned statements on their website and all about their tech specs. If you have the technical knowledge by the time you interview, they'll get that from your resume. I think what really shines is a hardworking, innovative personality. Definitely utilize resources like your school's career services office to do mock interviews or focus on shining through a phone interview (my phone interview was my only interview!) and don't be afraid at all to go straight to the source and ask advice from recruiters if you have their info from a career fair/event or can scope it out.
